4 teams of Australian Student from 5 schools will be representing Australia at the upcoming 2018 F1 in Schools World Finals.
The stage is set for the biggest F1 in Schools World Finals ever held in the history of this award-winning global educational initiative, with 60 international teams competing at this year's event starting on 9th September.
Singapore was selected for the 14th edition of this annual event to crown the World Champions. The competition is being hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel on Sentosa Island in the week proceeding the 2018 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
F1 in Schools challenges students to create their own Formula 1 team which is commissioned to design, construct and race the fastest miniature Formula 1 Car of the future; a 21cm long scale model and powered by a compressed gas cylinder.
At the World Finals each team brings along a pit display, their cars and a written portfolio, as well as having prepared a verbal presentation for the judges. The cars race on a 20-metre track, with the cars covering the distance in around one second. Australia are the current World Record holders at 0.916 seconds and current World Champions ... the fifth time we have won this coveted title.
The 2018 World Finals is being held from 9th to 13th September with three days of intense competition. After all their hard work the students will be rewarded with a trip to Singapore Street Circuit on Thursday for a pit lane walk and the opportunity to attend the 2018 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.
This will be a trip of a lifetime for the students. Not only for having to cope with the intense pressure of competing at the highest level, but also for the opportunity to share the warm hospitality of Singapore and the chance to form life long relationships with students from around the world.
The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge inspires a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It provides students the opportunity to rub shoulders with industry, build employability (career) skills and, at this event, rub shoulders with their F1 Heroes.
In addition to all the Australian sponsors who have helped the teams prepare, the F1 in Schools World Finals 2018 is supported by a host of international sponsors including Formula One Management (FOM), Denford Ltd, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Autodesk, FIA Women in Motor Sport Commission, City University London and UCL Engineering.
